I recently created a task for myself to teach a workshop on "Harnessing creative energy" for men.
My ideas for the workshop are based on my own experiences of using and discovering my creative talents and skills. As a clairvoyant (psychic) reader that a person is a complex organism of Chakras and Energy channels where information and experience is channeled and processed. In my workshop I plan to find and integrate these 2 aspects of information into a practical and informative lecture with hands on experiential practice, with a goal of instigating goals for creative application.
As I see it creative energy for a man is both intellect and creative dexterity. When I was in my pre- and teenage years, my creative energy was turning on because of the hormonal changes of adolescence. You see creative energy is very much tied to sexual energy in fact it comes from the same source and is essentially the same energy. The difference between creative and sexual energy is how it is used, this is true for both men and women.
When I was 14 years old I spent tremendous amounts of my free time reading text books, mostly math and computer books. I am now 50, back then the Internet did not exists and the only expansive source of information was the Public Library or large commercial and university bookstores. When I was 9 a used to spend time drawing with a pencil, mostly I did sketches of objects and self portraits using the bathroom mirror. I was actually pretty good. My mother is a painter and artist. My father had re-married and either out of resentment or ignorance was concerned I would turn out to be like my mother, that is to say overly sensitive and with her head in a fantasy world. According to my father these were the things that made a person weak. Needless to say he convinced me to stop drawing and concentrate on more traditional activities such as sports.
I have always tall and lanky for my age growing up. I often felt clumsy and dis-connected from my body. I was good at football and volleyball, but generally found most competitive sports uncomfortable and that I had inadequacy for competing with others. I later learned from my meditations that this was mostly because of my mothers protective energy that basically discouraged me from anything that could be potentially dangerous or uncomfortable. It wasn't until my twenties that I began to separate out and release my mothers protection energy. I guess it is still amazing to me how much both my parents stifled and influenced my creativity. I have always thought of myself as an individual separate and unique for everyone else.
My creative development changed very much between my childhood, teenage years, twenties & thirties and the following years. There is definitely a link at least for me between my creativity and my social expression. The same control and protective energies that limited my ability to interact with others also controlled my ability to create and express myself. As a child I had no trouble drawing, appreciating beauty and expressing myself. In my teens my creative was channeled into intellectual pursuits such as computers and mechanical drawing. I did try getting into music and enjoyed the keyboard and guitar, but the same frustration of being able to produce what I saw in my mind's eye prevented me from continuing to develop my drawing and musical skills. In my twenties and thirties, I began to re-explore sports and became a professional video game programmer. I loved my job creating video games, it was a real time interactive level of art that included the user and allowed them to channel their skill within a scaled or limited environment. Sort of like isolated muscle exercises or therapy, but for the mind and hand to eye coordination. My forties I used my creativity for others to create websites and professional easy to use intuitive commercial applications, I also used it in marketing and teaching curriculum's applying my perception on how people learned and processed their experience and information presented to them to create highly effective and successful presentations. Now in my fifties I am returning to art as a form of my expression, although I use my creativity in very diverse ways capitalizing on all my previous years of development.
I have heard more than a few people say that, "the affliction of all artists is the inability to ever perfectly create what they see in their mind's eye." It is funny to me that most of use fail to see that creativity is a marriage of both spirit and body that is processes and used through the intellect and our physical dexterity. We tend to get programmed by our own and other people's visual experience. For example if you hear a live version at a club of a band or singer presenting a popular song that we have heard and enjoyed on the radio or on our music player, many of use will condemn this new unique version because it does not match what we perceive as the original version. If we sing in front of others, we may feel that our delivery is not good enough because it does not match what we hear in our mind from our previous experiences of the song. When we compare our expression to a picture or experience, we tend to automatically invalidate our ability because it does not match that expectation.
From these my experiences I have learned that creativity is stifled and limited by our lack of experience, expectations and critical perception on what we produce, foreign energy and information invested in us by our family, friends, environment and whatever education or media we are exposed to. Of course all these sources are also nourishment for our creativity, but until they are properly processed and digested these experiences do just as much to poison us as they do to nourish us.
Yet, to enjoy and use your creativity one must not be critical, or at least not so much as to loose touch with what we are at the present. It is arrogance to believe we can properly critic ourselves at any given moment. We can only do this in hindsight, and even then we will always be somewhat in error in our evaluations. This because we are always ignorant of ourselves to some degree however small that may be. It is irrelevant to evaluate or critic our creativity because it is a process like everything else in life. We can only learn and grow in our creativity and when we have the courage to leave our mark upon the world that we been here and contributed to it.
Now that we have had some time to think about and meditate on some ideas and experiences of our creativity, let us begin in exploring how we create and express ourselves...
Tutorial: Grounding and releasing tutorial.
Lecture: male energy comes from the testicles and is channeled in various ways through the body. There is a natural tendency for this energy to run down and then loop up into the middle-back of the body near the spine and through each of the Chakras. When the energy is run in this fashion it is used as a healing or competitive physical energy in the body. This promote both sexual and physical drive within the body and validates our physical and sexual nature.
The male creative energy from the testicles can also be run directly up though the front of the body through each of the Chakras where is fuels more of a creative and expressive level of experience.
There is a difference between these to general ways of running this energy is whether you are operating from sexual body information or from more spiritual or higher level of information.
Exercise: Run the energy downward and meditate of the experience of having your male energy running in this fashion. Then direct the energy up and meditate on that experience. What do you notice? Pick a partner and share with them your experience of running your energy the 2 different ways.
Q & A: on running male energy.
Exercise: draw a graph or grid with 4 columns and 4 rows. Along the horizontal heading write "Childhood", "Between", and "Present"; along the vertical first column write "Sports/Competitive", "Intellect", "Artistic/Expressive". For each of the other cells imagine a flower: write the color and openness of each flower you imagine. Partner up with a clairvoyant student or graduate and swap with them to get a reading on how you use and have developed your creativity. Graduates, should do a self-reading as well and share with their partner on the trade.
Q & A: on how they have used and developed their creativity in the different areas of their life at different times.
Lecture: To control or be controlled by our male energy. There is really no issue between how you use your male energy. But if our spiritual goals and sexual body agenda is in conflict we may find ourselves creating problems or situations we do not like. To deny either agenda is many ways is to be in competition with oneself. If we are at conflict with ourselves there is no end to the frustration and strife we may experience. It is often helpful to understand our genetic / sexual programming or needs; likewise we must begin to know ourselves as spirit. By saying hello to these aspects of our being-ness we can begin to integrate on come to a solid and powerful utilization of our creative power. Many people agree that men are meant to be potent and sow their seeds far and wide, in many cases we will compete to be the dominant or alpha male within our social group or peers. If we find we cannot compete we either find an area or group that we can compete in or we suffer in pain of being inadequate. Our physical being-ness can both rewarding and critical of our existence and how we live our life. Furthermore the women around us will tend to encourage this intense level of competition as their genetic programming instructs them to bond with the strongest or most suitable mate. Yet without this intense programming to compete we as men will lack a strong driving force and creativity. The answer in making this struggle work for you in a validating and integrated way is to say hello to who you are as a genetic male entity, learn how to utilize this part of yourself and apply it toward your goals. Not to loose site of your genetic programming and needs, but rather to channel this power also into areas that serve you both as spirit and body in your life on a holistic level. How you do this is up to you, but I might suggest you start by looking at what you are already doing well in general creative areas of your life, and also look where you would like to get more on track or be more powerful within yourself and your life.
Exercize: come up with 4 areas or tasks in your life where you are powerful. Then come up with 4 areas of your life that you wish to start or become more powerful. Think of how you can accomplish this.
Exersize: releasing pain and failure.
Meditation: Run your male creative energy for 3 minutes while considering your goals or the tasks you have set for yourself.
Benediction.
